How to find the volume button on Insignia TV – 5 steps
#1: On your remote
Ah, yes. The remote.
Your TV’s one-stop shop for all its needs.
Unless you’re living under a rock…
You’ve most likely used the volume buttons on your remote.
The volume button on your Insignia TV remote is usually a large oval button with “VOL” in the middle.
Otherwise, you can find it by looking for the Plus (+) or Subtract (-) signs.
#2: On your smartphone
No remote? Not a problem.
You can always use your smartphone as a remote substitute.
“Wait. That’s possible?”
Yes. You’re always a few taps away from your smartphone as a remote.
But you need to ensure something:
First, your Insignia TV must receive signals through Infrared (IR). Then, your phone should send IR signals.
These could usually be found in their respective manuals.
Once you’ve confirmed it, you can now download any remote app on your Android or iOS.
Just follow the setup instructions given on the app…
And you’re good to go. You can change the volume of your TV with a phone.

#3: On the remote of your other devices
Do you have a device connected to your Insignia through HDMI?
Perhaps a streaming device. Or maybe a gaming console.
It doesn’t matter what it is…
You can use their remote to turn down the volume on your Insignia.
I know what you’re thinking:
“I’ve tried using other remotes before. It didn’t work.”
Sure, but have you tried it with HDMI-CEC on yet?
If you don’t know what that is, that’s okay. Let me explain…
Between your TV and its connected devices…
There are simply too many remotes and controllers in your home.
The solution?
Manufacturers have devised a way to have 1 remote control your entire TV.
Cool, right? This is why I know what your next question is:
“How come I’ve never heard of it before?”
Chances are that you have…
It just goes by a different name.
You see, manufacturers couldn’t resist having a different name for their CEC function. Names like:
Brand | CEC Name |
Hitachi | HDMI-CEC |
Insignia | INLink |
Mitsubishi | NetCommand or Realink |
Panasonic | VIERA Link, HDAVI Control, or EZ-Sync |
Philips | EasyLink or Fun-Link |
Samsung | Anynet+ |
Sony | BRAVIA Link or BRAVIA Sync |
Toshiba | CE-Link or Regza Link |
Vizio | CEC |
Now, here’s how you can turn INLink on:
For older Insignia TV models
- Press the Settings button on your remote.
- Go to the Display & Sounds tab.
- Head to External Inputs.
- Set HDMI CEC Device Control to On.
For newer Insignia TV models
- Press the Menu button on your remote.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Set INLink Control to On.
- Now, press the INLink option.
- Change Audio Receiver to On.
After that, you can now use the button on your other remotes to adjust Insignia’s volume.
#4: On the Insignia TV itself
So, you still can’t use any of the volume buttons mentioned above…
Not to worry.
There’s one more volume button somewhere near you.
However, you’ll need to stand up…
Because the buttons I’m talking about are located on the TV itself.
The physical buttons on your TV are the last resort when your other controls aren’t working.
Now, here’s where these buttons are usually located in an Insignia TV:
- Left or right bezels.
- Bottom of the screen.
- Middle-bottom at the back of your TV.
#5: You can’t
Here’s the truth:
Some Insignia TVs simply don’t have a Volume button without a remote.
Insignia has stopped putting physical buttons on their TV except for a Power button.
The reason? Who knows…
But a lot of manufacturers prioritize minimalist aesthetic over functionality…
Therefore, they’re getting rid of other buttons on their TV.
It sucks. But what can we do?
Well, if you’ve followed along with the tutorial and nothing is working…
There’s a possibility that your Insignia TV has a software problem.
In that case, you can still use the Volume button on your remote to change its levels.
How?
First, you’ll have to factory reset your Insignia TV.
This will get rid of all its:
- Data.
- Preferences.
- Setting changes.
However, it’ll also remove all your TV’s errors and glitches. And that includes any issues that are stopping it from receiving signals from the remote.
Sound good?
Now, reset your Insignia without a remote using these directions:
- Get a thin object, preferably a needle or a toothpick.
- Locate the physical Power button on your TV.
- Feel around it until you find a recessed button or a hole.
- Insert the thin object into the hole as deep as you can.
- Hold until the Standby Light on your TV flashes bright and then flickers.
- Once a prompt appears on your screen, use your Power button to select OK.

How do I adjust the volume on Insignia TV?
You can adjust the volume on your Insignia TV using the volume buttons on your remote. If those aren’t working, use the physical buttons on the TV itself.
If your volume is somehow stuck, please follow the fix under the section “#5: You can’t.”
What to do if you still can’t find the volume button
If you can’t find the volume button on your remote or on the TV itself, use your smartphone instead.
To do this, use the directions listed under “#2: On your smartphone.”
