So apparently, my Westinghouse TV is like the following movie icons…
Superman, Neo, and Rey Skywalker.
They all came back to life.
Just when I thought they were dead.
And for my TV, it only took a few steps to power it back on.

Why does my Westinghouse TV won’t turn on?
Your Westinghouse TV won’t turn on because of a problem with the power source. Your outlet’s likely defective. Or there are damages to the power cord. It’s also possible that your remote control’s not working. Problems with the backlight or main board can also prevent your TV from turning on.
Westinghouse TV won’t turn on: 9 ways to fix it
#1: Plug the TV into a different outlet
Westinghouse TV isn’t exactly a popular brand.
In fact, according to Statista, it’s not even in the top 10 most popular TVs in the US.
But just because it isn’t popular doesn’t mean it’s a bad product.
It’s actually a decent smart TV. Especially when the company started partnering with Roku and Android for their TV’s OS.
But while it’s a good TV, it also experiences malfunctions from time to time.
And the most common complaint among users…
At times, it won’t turn on at all.
Now, if you’re reading this, you’re also likely experiencing the same thing.
But don’t worry. It also sometimes happens to other brands. Like Samsung, Vizio, and Sony.
So before blaming Westinghouse for it…
Check if it’s not actually an outlet issue.
A good way to know is by checking the TV’s status light.
Sometimes, the TV won’t turn on. But you’ll still see a red light at the bottom.
Can you see any light at all?
If you can’t, then it’s likely a problem with the power source.
Now, did you plug the TV into a power strip?
If so, check if the strip’s switch is actually on. And if it is, try to plug your TV into the strip’s other outlets.
And if the power strip’s defective, plug the TV directly into the wall outlet.
If you’re already using a wall outlet, but the TV still won’t turn on…
Look for other power sources in your household. Those that you’ve verified are working. And try those instead.
#2: Replace the power cord
Once you’re able to verify that it isn’t an outlet issue…
The next fix is to check for power cord issues.
Like most smart TVs, Westinghouse TVs have a detachable power cord.
So, ensure that you connect it firmly and securely to the TV.
You may also want to remove it. And then re-attach it. Try to wiggle it to make sure it isn’t loose.
In addition, check for any damages to the actual cord.
Depending on your TV’s location, someone may have accidentally stepped on it. Or your fur baby may have tried to chew it.
And if it’s defective, look for a replacement.
Here are several power cord manufacturers that I can recommend:
#3: Perform a power cycle
If your Westinghouse TV won’t turn on, but the status light’s on…
Then it isn’t a power issue.
Instead, it could be any of the following:
- Software glitch.
- Defective backlight.
- Wrong input setting.
- Remote control issue.
- Problems with the main board.
There are specific resolutions for all of those.
But before proceeding to those fixes, you should try to do a power cycle first.
In other words, restart your TV.
Power cycling is a quick and easy fix. And in some cases, doing it is enough to resolve a Westinghouse TV that won’t turn on.
“Wait, how can I restart something that won’t even turn on?”
Good point. But you can actually still do it by simply unplugging. And pressing the power button.
Here’s the proper way to power cycle a Westinghouse TV:
- Unplug the TV from the outlet.
- Press and hold the TV’s power button for 20 to 30 seconds.
- Wait for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Plug the TV into the outlet.
Now, try to turn it back on. You may use the TV’s power button or the remote.
If it still doesn’t turn on, consider leaving the TV unplugged for 1 day. This will allow the TV’s main board and backlight to cool down.
And according to some Westinghouse TV owners, this resolved the problem for them.
#4: Check if you’re on the correct input setting
Sometimes, users may think that their Westinghouse TV won’t turn on…
When in reality, it already is on. It’s just on the incorrect input source.
So check if this is the case with your TV as well.
Are you trying to watch from a streaming device like Firestick or Roku?
If so, check the back of your TV to know which HDMI port you used. It should have a label directly on top of it.
And then go to the input source that matches the port.
There are 2 ways you can switch the input source on a Westinghouse TV.
First, by using the remote. Just look for the button that says Source. And keep pressing it until you find the correct one.
Another way is through the TV’s built-in button. Some Westinghouse TVs have an Input button.
It’s either on the back or at the bottom of the TV. You may also press that to change inputs.
#5: Verify if it’s a remote control issue
Another possible reason your TV won’t turn on…
You’re trying to use a remote that’s not working.
An easy way to troubleshoot a remote is to reseat the batteries.
Remove them. Switch sides. So the left battery goes to the right. And vice versa.
You should also ensure that the battery compartment’s clean. Dirt build-up in that area can also cause the remote to malfunction.
You may use a dry, clean cloth for wiping.
In addition, you should also try to clean the remote’s sensor. And ensure that nothing’s getting in the way of the TV and the remote.
Now, if you’ve had the remote for a while, it may be time to replace the batteries.
Use 2 fresh AAA batteries for your Westinghouse TV remote.
#6: Get a replacement remote control
If the remote’s still not working after cleaning and replacing the batteries…
Then consider getting a replacement.
You can find replacement remotes for Westinghouse TV that don’t require setups.
Here are just a few brands to choose from:
All of those remotes are under $15. And they should work right away on most, if not all, Westinghouse TVs. No need for programming.
Note: Before buying a replacement remote, check with the seller first. Confirm if the remote’s actually compatible with your Westinghouse TV model.
You can find your model number on the back of the TV. And on the user manual.
#7: Disconnect external devices
Some Westinghouse TVs have what’s called HDMI-CEC.
It’s a feature that partially allows the TV remote to control HDMI-connected devices.
And in turn, it gives external devices access to control the TV. Such as putting the TV to sleep.
Or automatically turning it on.
It’s a great feature. But it can also sometimes cause problems. Such as a power issue.
And it usually happens when one of the external devices glitches.
That’s why you should also try to disable this feature. A quick way to do it is by disconnecting all external devices from your TV.
Afterward, power cycle your TV by unplugging and replugging it from the outlet.
See if you can now turn it on with no other connected device.
#8: Update your Westinghouse TV’s software
Obviously, you can’t do this if your TV won’t turn on.
But, just in case you got it to work…
It’s best to install firmware updates immediately.
Because, while rare, a system glitch can also cause power issues to a Westinghouse TV. And installing updates can help prevent it from happening again.
Now, most modern Westinghouse TVs have either Roku or Android software.
So the way to update will vary. But don’t worry. You’ll find the steps for both below.
How to update Roku OS
- Press your remote’s Home button.
- Select Settings.
- Click System.
- Select System Update.
- Select Check Now.

#9: Contact Westinghouse for repair options
If your TV still won’t turn after trying out all the fixes…
It likely needs some repair.
And unless you’re a trained technician, please don’t attempt to do it yourself. As it might only create more problems for your TV.
Instead, you should contact Westinghouse. Here’s their hotline number: 1-800-701-0680.
You can discuss repair options with them. You can also verify if your warranty covers the issue.
Aside from their hotline, you may send them a message through their support page.
