Why is the Spectrum app not working on my Samsung TV?

The Spectrum App isn’t working on your Samsung TV because the platform’s servers are down. Sometimes, the Internet connection is too slow to load the app. And in other cases, an outdated firmware or application is causing this problem. 

Spectrum app not working on Samsung TV: 7 fixes

#1: Check Spectrum app’s server status

The 1st thing you should check is the server status of Spectrum itself.

See, the problem may not be due to your Samsung TV or app.

And instead, the actual streaming platform is currently down. 

Now, if this is the case… 

All Spectrum TV users, including you, won’t be able to stream on the app. 

And since the problem isn’t from your end…

That means you also won’t be able to do anything to fix this issue. 

However, don’t worry. Even if Spectrum’s system is currently down… 

Most likely, it’ll be working again once tomorrow comes. 

“How do I know if that’s the case?”

#2: Cold boot your Samsung TV

Most of the time, the easiest solution is the most efficient.

So with that in mind, you should cold boot your Samsung TV now.

“What’s that?” 

Cold booting shuts down your device and reboots it again. 

You’re likely familiar with the other term for this process called restart. 

And although it’s a very simple solution, it can work wonders.  

Now, it’s worth noting that a cold boot differs from simply turning OFF your device. 

See, when you turn OFF your TV…

It’s actually just in standby mode, and it’s not completely OFF. 

So your TV never gets the full rest needed to remove any glitches in its system. 

And over time, these little issues slowly accumulate to form bigger ones. 

Until they eventually cause significant problems for your TV.

Like stopping your Spectrum app from working. 

However, don’t worry. 

As mentioned, you just need to restart your TV to remove minor problems from its memory. 

So with that in mind, here’s how you can…

Cold boot your TV

With a remote: 
  1. Turn your TV ON.
  2. Grab the remote. 
  3. Press and hold the power button.
  4. Wait for your TV to turn OFF and ON again.
  5. Once your TV boots up, let go of the power button. 
Without a remote:
  1. Turn ON your TV. 
  2. Unplug its power cord from the outlet. 
  3. Wait for 30 seconds. 
  4. Plug it into its power source again. 

Now that you’ve cold booted your Samsung TV, try to use the Spectrum app again.

And if it’s still not working… 

#3: Reset your router 

Your Spectrum app is an online streaming platform.

So if you don’t have a stable Internet connection…

You also won’t have a desirable streaming experience. 

And with that in mind… 

The next fix you should do is to reset your Internet router. So you can improve the performance and speed of your network.

With that, here are the steps you need to follow to…

Reset your Wifi router: 

  1. Unplug your router’s power cord from the outlet.
  2. Wait for 1 minute.
  3. Plug it back again.
  4. Wait for all the lights to turn green. 

Now, if you see a yellow or red indicator light on your router…

You should contact your Internet provider. 

But if all the lights turn green, proceed to…

Check how fast your Internet is:

  1. Find a mobile device or PC you can use.
  2. Connect it to the Wifi network your Samsung TV is using. 
  3. Open any browser. 
  4. Go to the website.
  5. Tap the GO button on your screen.
  6. Wait for the results to show up.

Now, if you’re getting a result of 5 Mbps or higher… 

That means your Internet isn’t the problem, and you should proceed to the next fix.

But if you’re getting a speed lower than that, you need to contact your service provider.

So they can guide you on how you can improve your network connection.

#4: Ensure that your Samsung TV and Spectrum app are up to date

It’s not a secret that updates help devices and software work better. 

See, they’re so important that… 

Not keeping your firmware and apps up to date can stop them from running correctly. 

Or worse, stop them from working at all. 

So the next solution you should try is to update your TV and Spectrum app.

Now, don’t worry. 

Since you’ve already checked that you have a fast Internet connection earlier… 

This process will be quick and easy.  

With that, just follow along with these steps to… 

Update your Spectrum app: 

  1. Turn ON your Samsung TV. 
  2. Tap the Home button on your remote control. 
  3. Now, head to the Apps section. 
  4. Click the gear icon (Settings) at the top-right corner. 
  5. Select Auto Update. 

Note: This process will update all your Samsung TV apps, including Spectrum.

And now that you’ve updated the streaming platform, it’s time to… 

Update your Samsung TV’s firmware:

  1. Tap Home on your remote. 
  2. Navigate to Settings. 
  3. From the list, hover over Support.
  4. On the right side of your screen, click Update Now. 
  5. Wait for the process to finish.

#5: Reinstall Spectrum

Your app may have too much cache making it unable to load…

Because deleting an application clears its caches from your TV.

Here are the steps to reinstall the Spectrum app on your Samsung TV

Delete the app:
  1. Press Home on your remote control.
  2. Scroll to the left and select Apps. 
  3. Tap the Settings icon on the top-right corner.
  4. Select Spectrum from the list. 
  5. From the window that pops up, click Delete.
  6. Select Delete once more to confirm the action. 

Now, restart your TV, and then… 

Install the app again: 
  1. Go to the Apps page again. 
  2. Tap the search icon on the top-right. 
  3. Type in Spectrum in the search bar.
  4. Once you see the app on the results, select it. 
  5. Tap Install.
  6. Wait for the process to download. 

After reinstalling the app, go back to your home screen.

And then relaunch Spectrum to see if you’ve fixed the problem.

#6: Reset Samsung Smart Hub

Still having problems?

Then it’s time to reset your TV’s Smart Hub.

Now, if you’re not familiar with what this is yet… 

Smart Hub is the intelligent menu system of your Samsung TV.

And it acts as the manager of all your accounts, apps, and caches. 

Now, if you’re wondering why you need to reset this…  

It’s because resetting your Smart Hub will also restart your Samsung TV apps.

And delete any glitches from their system too. 

Convenient, right? 

Now, don’t worry if you haven’t done this before. 

Because frankly speaking, it’s effortless to…

Reset the Smart Hub of your Samsung TV: 

  1. Tap Home on your remote. 
  2. Click the Settings icon. 
  3. Scroll down until you hover over Support. 
  4. From the list, tap Device Care. 
  5. Select Self Diagnosis. 
  6. Tap the Reset Smart Hub tile. 
  7. Enter your pin code (default is 0000).

Note: This process will delete all apps that aren’t pre-installed on your Samsung TV. Including Spectrum. So refer back to fix #5 to reinstall the app.

#7: Factory Reset your Samsung TV

Some technological problems are just stubborn, aren’t they?

But don’t worry. Your Samsung TV also has a solution for persistent problems like this. 

And it’s something called a factory reset. 

Now, if you’re not familiar with what this is yet…

It’s a process that deletes all your data from your Samsung TV. 

And if you’re thinking… 

“How can that fix my Spectrum app?” 

Let me explain. 

See, glitches and bugs can also exist on the current data on your device. 

And sometimes, the only way to remove them is to delete everything from your TV. 

Including your apps, accounts, and information.

And with that in mind… 

Here’s how you can factory reset your Samsung TV: 

  1. Go to your TV settings.
  2. Select General from the list. 
  3. Tap Reset. 
  4. Enter your pin code (default is 0000). 
  5. Select Reset once more to confirm the action.
  6. Tap OK.
  7. Wait for your TV to reset and restart automatically. 

Now, it’s very rare for the app to still not work at this point.

But unfortunately, it still happens.

So if you still can’t use Spectrum TV by now…
