- The most common reasons why your Samsung TV has no sound.
- And this is just the beginning…
Why does my Samsung TV have no sound?
Your Samsung TV have no sound because it’s on mute or its volume is too low. Sometimes, this happens because your device is glitching. And in other cases, faulty HDMI cables are causing this issue. On top of that, having outdated firmware also stops Samsung TV’s audio.
Samsung TV no sound: 11 fixes
#1: Ensure that your TV isn’t on mute
Let’s start with the easiest solution, shall we?
So 1st, check if your Samsung TV is on mute.
Now, this might sound too simple to be a fix…
However, it’s very easy to accidentally press the mute key on your remote control. So you shouldn’t rule out this solution.
That said, try clicking the mute button on your Samsung TV remote.
Then try streaming any shows or movies again on your device.
Now, it’s also worth noting that streaming devices also have their own volume.
So if your TV is connected to an external input like:
- A Roku.
- An Apple TV.
- An Amazon Firestick.
Then you should unmute them too.
“I unmuted my TV and streaming device but still can’t hear anything.”
In that case, try…
#2: Increasing your volume level
Sure, your TV isn’t on mute, but its volume might be at its lowest levels.
And that’s why you still can’t hear anything from your TV.
So now, you should try…
Increasing the volume levels of your TV:
- Grab your Samsung remote.
- Increase the volume to at least 70%.
- Try playing any shows or channel.
If you still can’t hear anything, proceed to…
Increase the volume levels of your external input:
- Get the remote control of your streaming device.
- Increase the volume to 70%.
- Play a show or a movie on any streaming app.
Still having trouble hearing anything?
Then that means the volume isn’t the problem.
And your device’s software or settings are glitching or set incorrectly.
With that said, the following solution you should try is to…
#3: Power cycle your TV
What do you do when you’re tired?
You rest or sleep, don’t you?
Now, how about your TV?
What can it do when it’s exhausted with its tasks?
Nothing. Because your TV needs human assistance to stop its system.
But fortunately, you can easily do this through power cycling.
“I’m not familiar with that term.”
Don’t worry. It simply means unplugging and plugging your TV into its power source.
Now, you might be thinking…
“Can’t I just use the restart option on my device?”
But no, power cycling is different from a simple restart.
See, if you think of restarting as an afternoon nap…
You can compare a power cycle to a full 8-hour sleep at night.
That’s because the latter is more efficient at making your device rest as it can:
- Clear caches on your Samsung TV.
- Force stop any ongoing tasks and apps.
- Remove minor glitches and bugs from the system.
And with that in mind, you can now proceed to…
Power cycle your Samsung TV:
- Unplug your TV from the outlet.
- Press and hold its power button for 15 seconds.
- Wait for 45 seconds.
- Plug the TV into its power source again.
- Turn ON your TV.
For best results, you should also…
Power cycle your external input:
- Unplug your streaming device from its power source.
- Wait for 1 minute.
- Plug it back into the outlet again.
Now, check if your TV’s audio is already working.
#4: Try watching on a different platform
See, just like your TV…
The app or channel that you’re currently watching on can also glitch.
So now, try watching on a different app, channel, or input.
For example, if you’re currently watching on Hulu…
Try watching on Youtube or Netflix instead.
Likewise, if you’re watching on a TV channel, then switch to another 1.
See, if the audio works fine on other channels or applications…
Then your Samsung TV isn’t the problem.
And you should contact the support team of the app you’re having problems with.
But if you can’t hear anything regardless of the platform you’re on, proceed to the next fix.

#5: Set your audio output to “TV Speaker”
See, you can project the audio from your TV in different ways.
And while the default option is your TV speakers…
You can also use these devices for your Samsung TV’s sound:
- Bluetooth.
- Headphones.
- External speakers.
With that said, you may have set your TV to use other audio outputs…
So you need to set your audio settings to the TV Speaker option again.
“How do I do that?”
Simple. Just follow these steps to…
Set your Samsung TV audio output to TV Speaker:
- Turn ON your TV.
- Click the Menu or Home button on your remote.
- Tap Settings.
- From the list, select Sound.
- On the right part of your screen, click the Sound Output.
- Set it to TV Speaker.
#6: Check if your external device is connected to a headset
Are you using a streaming device with your Samsung TV?
If so, then continue with this fix. But if not, proceed to the next 1.
See, while Samsung TVs don’t have headphone jacks on their unit…
Some external devices, like Roku, do.
And when a headset is connected to this port…
The audio from your TV speakers will automatically stop. As it’ll redirect the sound to the headphones instead.
So now, you should check if your streaming device has a headphone jack on its remote. And ensure that nothing is connected to it.
After doing so, try playing any media on your Samsung TV again.
And observe if you can now hear sounds from your device.

#7: Run a sound test
Still can’t hear anything from your TV?
Then it’s time to run a sound test.
See, this is the easiest way to check if anything’s wrong with your TV’s audio settings…
Without needing to check every 1 of them individually.
Now, don’t worry. This might be called a test, but honestly, it’s way easier than a quiz.
So with that being said, sit back, grab your remote and follow these simple steps to…
Perform a sound test on your Samsung TV:
- Turn ON your TV.
- Press Menu or home on your Samsung remote.
- Head to Settings.
- Navigate to Support.
- Click the Self Diagnosis option.
- Select Start Sound Test.
- Wait for the process to finish.
Note: Give your TV time to scan through your audio settings. And don’t unplug or interact with your TV during the ongoing test.
Now, if the results show a problem with your sound settings…
Proceed to the next fix. If not, proceed to fix #9.
#8: Reset your sound settings
The exact steps for this process will depend on your device’s model.
But don’t worry. I’ve prepared different instructions for different Samsung TV series lineups.
With that being said…
Here’s how you can reset your TV sound settings
For Samsung TVs part of the E/F/H/J series:
- Click the Menu button on your remote.
- Head to Sounds.
- Click Reset Sound.
- Tap Yes to confirm.

- Click Sound.
- At the bottom of the list, tap Expert Settings.
- Select Reset Sound.
- Click Reset once more to confirm.
After this reset, restart your Samsung TV.
And check if the problem has now been solved.
#9: Check your HDMI cables
HDMI cables are responsible for relaying audio and video signals to your TV.
So if you still can’t hear anything from your Samsung device…
Then you may have faulty or damaged HDMI cables.
Now, there are 2 different ways to check the status of your HDMI cords:
- Manually.
- Using your TV settings.
And since the 2nd method is easier, let’s start with…
Checking the status of your HDMI cables through settings:
- Keep your HDMI cables connected to your TV.
- Press the Menu button on your remote.
- Head to your TV settings.
- Select Support.
- From the list, click Self Diagnosis.
- Tap Signal Information.
- Select Start Test.
Now, bear in mind that this Self Diagnosis feature is only available for newer models.
So if you don’t see this option on your device, proceed to…
Manually checking the status of your HDMI cables:
Step 1: Unplug your TV from its power source.
Step 2: Disconnect the HDMI cables from your device.
Step 3: Thoroughly check each 1 of them.
And ensure that you don’t see any:
- Tears.
- Burn marks.
- Discoloration.
Because these are the most common indications of a bad HDMI cable.
Now, if you want to know other signs of a faulty cable, watch this video:
Step 4: Connect your HDMI cable to the TV again if it isn’t damaged or faulty.
But if it is, you should buy a high-quality HDMI cable online or from your local stores.
And replace the 1 you’re currently using.
Step 5: Try streaming on your TV again.
And if this solution didn’t fix the problem…
#10: Update your TV
Outdated firmware can also cause problems with your device’s audio.
See, updates guarantee that your TV remains compatible with all its apps and settings.
And they also ensure that your TV is protected from the most common bugs and glitches.
“Aren’t updates supposed to install automatically?”
That’s true. But sometimes, they don’t because of external factors like:
- Power interruption.
- Insufficient storage.
- Slow Internet connection.
And that’s why now, you should…
Manually update your Samsung TV:
- Turn ON your TV.
- Using your remote, head to Settings.
- From the list, click Support.
- Tap Software Update.
- Select Update Now.
- Wait for the process to finish.
Pro tip: You should also update the external devices connected to your TV.
#11: Factory reset your Samsung TV
See, some glitches and bugs are just so stubborn…
That you’d need to delete everything from your TV just to remove them.
With that said, you should try factory resetting your device now.
So you can also get rid of these inconvenient factors on your TV.
However, before you do so…
Pro tip: Take note of your TV’s crucial information and login credentials. Because you won’t be able to reaccess them after the factory reset.
Once you do, follow these easy steps to…
Factory reset your Samsung TV:
- Click Home or Menu on your remote.
- Head to Settings > General.
- Click Reset.
- Enter your PIN (default is 0000).
- Tap Reset once more.
- Confirm by pressing OK.
- Wait for your TV to restart.
Now, if these steps don’t match the options on your TV, follow this instead to…
Factory reset older Samsung TVs:
- Head to Settings.
- Go to Support.
- Click Self Diagnosis.
- Select Reset.
Note: You may also check the user manual of your TV for more detailed instructions.
Once your TV boots up, check if your audio works.
