How to turn off Ring notification sound – 3 steps

Step #1: Set up Ring device on your app

Let’s say you just bought a new Ring device.

Before doing any modifications to its settings…

The first thing that you always need to do is to set it up. This process gives you complete control over your Ring device using the app…

Which comes in handy later when you start disabling the Ring notification sound.

So, without further ado, here’s how you can set up your Ring device on the app:

  1. Temporarily unmount the Ring device from where you put it.
  2. Download the Ring app on your smartphone. (Available on Android and iOS).
  3. Register an account or, otherwise, log in.
  4. Press Set Up Device.
  5. Choose what kind of Ring device you’re setting up.
  6. Pick a name for your device.
  7. Follow the other on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
  8. Once prompted, press the orange button at the back of your Ring device.
  9. Connect your Ring device to the correct Wi-Fi network using your app.

You’ll know you’re successful once the Ring device starts flashing lights. You should also get this message on the app:

“Congratulations, your setup was successful.”

Step #2: Disable Alerts

There are 2 ways to turn off notification sounds on a Ring device. These are the following:

  • Disable Alerts.
  • Put your Ring device in Snooze Mode.

Let’s focus on the disabling Alerts first.

Alerts are what your Ring app calls notifications when motion is detected.

Thankfully, disabling Alerts is easy using the Ring app. All you must do is:

  1. Open the Ring app.
  2. Press the More (3 horizontal dots) button next to your selected camera.
  3. Toggle off Motion Alerts.
  4. Toggle off Ring Alerts.

And you’re done. Just remind yourself to enable this again when you need it.

Pro tip: Don’t disable Record Motion. This ensures that you still have footage of your Ring camera even without Alerts.

Step #3: Put it in Snooze Mode

Alternatively, what if you don’t want to disable notifications sounds indefinitely?

Instead, you just want a couple of hours of silence.

What you should do in this case is enable Snooze Mode. This disables your Ring Alerts temporarily. The minimum is 30 minutes, and the maximum is 4 hours.

And, just like the previous steps, putting your camera in Snooze Mode is easy. You just need to:

  1. Go to the home screen of your Ring app.
  2. Tap the Menu (3 lines stacked vertically) button on the upper left side of your screen.
  3. Head to the Devices tab.
  4. Select the Ring device you want to silence.
  5. Choose the Motion Snooze tile.
  6. Set how long you want to disable notifications using the slider.
  7. Press Save Snooze Settings once you’re done.

#1: Remove Ring app cache

When something goes awry with your Ring app…

Bad cache is usually the culprit.

Now, you might be wondering:

“Wait, what’s cache?”

Cached data is information about the user saved on an app.

Notice how streaming apps usually save your recent searches? That’s because of cache.

This is usually a good thing. However, uncleared cache can become corrupted.

And, once the corrupted cache takes over an app, weird glitches can happen. And that includes a setting that you just can’t change.

To clear your app cache, here’s what you must do:

For iOS devices

  1. Shut down the Ring app.
  2. Go to the Settings menu on your smartphone.
  3. Scroll down until you see the Ring app.
  4. Choose the Ring app.
  5. Switch “Clear app cache on next launch” to On.
  6. Relaunch the Ring app.

For Android devices

  1. Go to the Settings menu on your smartphone.
  2. Press the Apps selection.
  3. Pick App Management.
  4. Scroll down until you see the Ring app.
  5. Choose the Ring app.
  6. Select Data Usage.
  7. Tap both Clear Cache and Clear Data.

Your next course of action is to reinstall Ring.

This ensures your device will clear your cache and other corrupted data on the Ring app.

Now, this is what you need to do to reinstall the app on your smartphone:

For iOS devices

  1. Long press the Ring app until you see a dropdown menu.
  2. Tap Remove App.
  3. Press Delete App.
  4. Choose Delete again to confirm.
  5. Next, launch the App Store.
  6. On the Search bar, type and enter “Ring.”
  7. Pick the correct Ring app.
  8. Select Get.

For Android devices

  1. Long press the Ring app until you see a dropdown menu.
  2. Tap Uninstall.
  3. Choose Uninstall again to confirm.
  4. Next, launch the Google Play Store.
  5. On the Search bar, type and enter “Ring.”
  6. Pick the correct Ring app.
  7. Select Get.

#3: Factory reset your Ring device

Alternatively, the problem could be with the Ring device instead of the app.

In that case, you might need to factory reset the device.

This process will not only remove all saved settings but can also delete all errors and glitches.

To factory reset a Ring device, what you need to do is:

  1. Unmount the Ring device.
  2. Unscrew the security screws to remove the faceplate.
  3. Find the Setup button inside your Ring Doorbell.
  4. Long press the Ring Doorbell for 10 seconds.
  5. Once it’s reset, launch the Ring app.
  6. Follow these directions to complete the reset:

More > Device Settings > General Settings > Remove This Device.

#4: Update Ring firmware

Update Ring Firmware

Another possible culprit of this issue is outdated firmware.

After all, manufacturers regularly roll out fixes to device issues using an update.

That’s why you need to update your Ring device. And this is how you can do so:

  1. Launch the Ring app.
  2. Tap the Menu (3 lines stacked vertically) button on the upper left side of your screen.
  3. Head to the Devices tab.
  4. Select the Ring device whose firmware you want to update.
  5. Head to Device Health.
  6. Under Device Details, choose Firmware.
  7. Press Firmware Version to trigger an update.

#5: Contact Ring for support

Once you’ve exhausted all DIY solutions, you can turn to someone else for guidance.

And who should you call? Ring themselves.

This is where you can contact Ring for further support and consultation.
