5 steps to reset a Toshiba TV

#1: Power reset

We start with a power reset.

Unplug the power from the TV for a minute. Then plug it back in and see if it’s working again.

No?

Then unplug the power again and after that, press the power button from the TV for about 20 seconds and let go. After that, wait another 10 seconds and plug it back in.

So, what are you doing this for?

You see, this trick will drain the electrical residue from the TV.

But, it’s not done yet…

You still have to press the power button from the TV to turn it back on and see if it worked.

Here’s the video for visual guidance:

#2: Factory reset

A factory reset brings your TV back to when it was just from the factory.

It’s helpful when your TV isn’t responding well or acts slow.

Warning: Keep in mind that this will erase all the user data, and the preferred settings.

Now, here’s how to do a factory reset on a Toshiba TV model 49L510U18 (49″ 1080p 60Hz LED TV):

  1. Press the Menu button on the remote.
  2. Go Installation and press Enter.
  3. Go to Reset TV and press Enter.
  4. Confirm by selecting Yes and press Enter.

When it’s confirmed, your TV will restart itself.

Note: It may ask for your PIN. If you forgot your PIN or you want to reset it, read on to Reset PIN.

And if you have a Toshiba Fire TV a factory reset goes like this:

  1. Press Home from the remote.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Device & Software.
  4. Select Reset to Factory Defaults.

With that, it’s all done.

There’s even a way to factory reset a Toshiba Fire TV without a remote.

Here’s how it goes:

  1. Unplug the power from the TV.
  2. Press and hold the Power button from the TV.
  3. Keep pressing the Power button and plug the power back in.
  4. Then keep pressing the Power button until you see the Toshiba logo.

Then you‘ll see the Recovery menu appear. You need to select: Wipe Data/Factory Reset. Here’s how to do that:

  1. Press the Power button. It will go down 1 option.
  2. Press it until you reached Wipe Data/Factory Reset.
  3. Select it by pressing and holding the Power button.
  4. Then choose Yes to confirm the factory reset.

After that’s done, go to Reboot System Now. Then select it by pressing and holding the power button. When the TV turns off, you can let go of the power button.

Now, it’s possible you need to repair the remote with the TV after this reset.

But don’t worry. This article’s got you all the way. That’s why you can proceed to the next section where I talk about how to….

#3: Reset the remote

Reset Toshiba Remote

Do you use your remote a lot?

If yes, you must know something about it….

You see, after a while, it can get worn out or less responsive. You can notice it when you press one of the buttons, but nothing happens.

If you experience that, you should first check the batteries.

Another option is to replace them with new ones. And as much as possible, don’t mix old batteries with new ones…

Moreover, ensure that you place the batteries correctly.

Meaning the plus logo (+) in the compartment should match the plus logo (+) on the battery. The same goes for the minus logo (-).

The buttons may also be unresponsive because they’re sticky or the remote is dusty.

If that’s the case, press every button a few times to reactivate the buttons again.

Repair the remote

You can also repair the remote with the TV. Here’s how to do it with a Toshiba Fire TV remote.

First, ensure that the remote’s aiming toward the TV:

Then, press and hold the Home button for 30 seconds.

And try again.

No luck?

Aim again for the remote at the TV.

Then press and hold the next 3 buttons for 30 seconds:

  1. The left Navigation button.
  2. The Menu button (3 horizontal stripes).
  3. The Back button.

Optionally you can replace your Toshiba’s Fire TV remote or buy a universal remote.

Smartphone as your remote

Finally, before we go to the next section, did you know you can use your smartphone as a remote?

Toshiba released an app for that. But there are a few steps to be checked first:

  1. The TV must be connected to the internet.
  2. Virtual Remote must be turned ‘On’ in the TV settings.
  3. Your device must be connected to the same wifi as the TV.

Once you’ve checked all the boxes, go on and try it out.

#4: Reset the wifi

You’ve checked this one before…

Your TV is connected to the wifi. Yet, there are delays when you stream or you use an app.

Don’t pull your hair out so much. There’s a quick fix to this, and it’s to reset your wifi.

First, unplug the power from the wifi for a minute, then plug it back in and see if it’s working better.

If it doesn’t get better, you can disconnect your current wifi and reconnect it.

Here’s how to disconnect your current wifi network on a Toshiba Fire TV:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Go to Network.
  3. Highlight your current network and press the Menu button (3 horizontal stripes).
  4. Press the Select button to confirm.

Then after that, you can reconnect to your wifi and see if it works better.

Bonus tip: You can also use your smartphone as a hotspot and connect your TV with it.

Just use this as a last resort since this goes via your mobile data.

So, before you try this fix check your data bundle with your mobile provider. You don’t want to have unexpected costs.

Here’s how to make a mobile hotspot on an Android smartphone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Portable Hotspot.

Then you can set up your mobile hotspot.

Here’s to do it on an Apple iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Choose Personal Hotspot.

You should enable ‘Allow others to join’.

Tip: Write down the password from the mobile hotspot.

After that, place your mobile phone close to the TV and try to connect.

#5: Reset the PIN

In the menu, parts of it may be greyed out. To access it, you need to fill in your PIN.

It’s also possible that the TV will ask for your PIN if you need to reset the tv to its factory settings.

’’But what happens if you forgot your PIN or you want to reset it?’’

Nice! I was hoping that you’d ask that.

Here’s how to do it on a Toshiba TV model 55L510U18 (55″ 1080p 60Hz LED TV):

  1. Press 4 times within 5 seconds the INFO button.
  2. The PIN will be cleared then, and you can enter a new PIN.

Now, say that you have a Toshiba Fire TV. Then, you forgot the pin or want to reset it.

Whichever it is between the two, there’s but one fix. And it’s to factory reset the TV.

This will set up your TV again from scratch, and you can enter a new PIN.

Warning: Keep in mind that doing this will erase all the user data and the preferred settings.

And here’s how to do a factory reset on a Toshiba TV:

  1. Press Home from the remote.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Device & Software.
  4. Select Reset to Factory Defaults.
