Does Saavn support Chromecast?

Saavn supports Chromecast. However, there are some requirements that your TV and phone need to meet. You’ll need at least Android 8.0 or iOS 14.0 to use Chromecast. You also need 15 Mb of free space for Android and 80 Mb for iOS devices.

5 things you need to know about Saavn compatibility with Chromecast

#1: Saavn has rebranded into JioSaavn

Imagine my surprise when one day…

The Saavn app on my phone suddenly disappeared.

After a few minutes of panicking because I couldn’t find the app on the Play Store…

I finally saw it:

JioSaavn. The new name for the Saavn app.

This change happened in 2018 after Saavn merged with Jio, a telecommunications company.

While change may seem scary sometimes…

It certainly wasn’t for JioSaavn.

Because, except for the name and aesthetics, everything remained the same.

It still is/has:

  • Free access to the pro version for 90 days.
  • 320 kbps audio and personalized playlists for pro users.
  • An intensive music library of more than 45 million songs.
  • Compatible with Alexa, Chromecast, Google Home, Android Auto, AirPlay, and more.

Same old Saavn. Bold new look.

#2: Requirements you need to meet before using JioSaavn with your Chromecast

You may be under the impression that any device can use JioSaavn with Chromecast…

If so, you’re mistaken.

Like all things, these two must meet a few requirements before you’re able to use them.

These are the things you need to consider:

For your TV

  • Your TV has a working HDMI port.
  • High-speed internet (At least 20 Mbps).
  • It must have High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) 1.3.

For your phone

  • 14 to 15 Mb of free space.
  • Android 6.0 or later for JioSaavn.
  • Android 8.0 or later for Google Home.
  • 70 to 80 Mb of free space.
  • iOS 8.0 or later for JioSaavn.
  • iOS 14.0 or later for Google Home.

#3: You can install JioSaavn directly to a Chromecast with Google TV

There are 3 kinds of Chromecast devices:

The first 2 are pure casting devices.

However, Chromecast with Google TV is an actual streaming device.

Why does it matter?

Because that means that you can install JioSaavn directly to that device.

No casting. No screen mirroring.

Simply plug your Chromecast with Google TV into your TV, and then:

Install an app using your remote

  1. Press the Home screen on your Chromecast remote.
  2. Go to the Apps section.
  3. Head to the Music section.
  4. Browse until you find JioSaavn.
  5. Expand on the tile containing JioSaavn.

Install an app using your voice

Alternatively, if you’re feeling extra lazy…

You can use your voice to download JioSaavn instead. To do this, you just need to:

  1. Grab your remote and hold the Microphone button.
  2. Clearly say: “JioSaavn.”

#4: You can cast your phone with JioSaavn to your Chromecast

So, let’s say that you cast the JioSaavn app on your Chromecast.

Here’s the following problem:

This means you can’t easily switch from one app to another.

For example, what if you want to switch from JioSaavn to Spotify?

What will happen is that the Chromecast will close JioSaavn…

However, it won’t play Spotify unless you go through the casting process again.

Sounds like a hassle, right?

Don’t worry. There’s a way to bypass this problem:

And that’s to cast your entire phone instead. To do just that, follow these steps:

For Android

  1. Open your Settings menu.
  2. Go to Connection & Sharing.
  3. Press Cast or Screencast.
  4. Switch Cast to On.
  5. Select your Chromecast from the list of devices available.

For iOS

  1. Download Replica from the App Store.
  2. Open Replica.
  3. Wait until your Chromecast device appears on the list of devices.
  4. Select your Chromecast.
  5. Press Start.
  6. Tap Start Broadcast.

#5: You can set JioSaavn as your default music service on Google Home

Sometimes, having too many choices overwhelm me.

That’s why I always ask my Chromecast to pick the music.

Depending on the mood, I just press the Microphone button and say:

“Hey Google, play some sad music” or “Hey Google, play some show tunes.”

However, Chromecast’s default music service is Spotify.

But what if I want JioSaavn instead?

Luckily, you can change your default music service. All you have to do is:

  1. Connect your TV and phone to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Switch to your Chromecast input.
  3. Open the Google Home app on your phone.
  4. Press the Add (+) button.
  5. Select Music.
  6. Now, look for and choose JioSaavn.

Now, JioSaavn will play every song request you give to Chromecast.
