#2: Cast to your Toshiba TV

Now that you got your Toshiba TV connected to the WiFi, it’s time to test the casting feature.

You can cast via different devices, like a tablet, a computer, or a smartphone.

Moreover, you can use your device from where you cast, as a remote control.

Note: To cast your device it should be on the same WiFi network as the Toshiba TV.

Toshiba Fire TV

If you have a Toshiba Fire TV it’s easy to cast.

Because with a Toshiba Fire TV, the Fire TV is already built in.

Step 1: Open for example the Youtube app on your smartphone or computer and select the Cast icon.

On the smartphone app, it’s located in the upper right corner and looks like a screen with 3 round bars on it.

Step 2: Tap on it and choose your Toshiba Fire TV to cast to.

Shortly after, you’ll see the Youtube video playing on the TV screen.

Toshiba Android TV

And if you have a Toshiba Android TV with the Google Chromecast built-in, it goes the same.

The difference?

It’s a Toshiba TV, but this time with the Google Chromecast built within.

This makes casting easy and simple.

Open the Youtube app on your computer or smartphone, play a video and select the Cast icon.

On the smartphone app, it’s located in the upper right corner and looks like a screen with 3 round bars on it.

Tap on it and select your Toshiba Android TV. Then the video will be shown on the screen.

Note: If you have to happen a different Toshiba TV, then check out the manual for the casting feature.

Some Toshiba TVs (older or different models) simply don’t have this, but no worries.

There are more ways to cast by buying a….

#3: Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick, or Roku Streaming Stick

Amazon Fire Stick Models

Note: Some Toshiba TVs don’t have a casting feature. If that’s the case, consider buying a Chromecast, Amazon Fire TV Stick, or Roku Streaming Stick.

The cool thing is that you only need to plug it into a TV HDMI port, USB port, and you’re good to go.

After you’ve connected it, the trick is the same: open a streaming app, look for the cast icon, and connect.

Works like a charm!

Not only that, it’s not as expensive as buying a whole new TV.

Moreover, these 3 streaming devices are widely used.

This means if there’s a bug and something is not working, it gets reported fast and by a lot of users.

And since they want to keep their users happy, the bug is also fixed and fast.

Finally, you can take these streaming sticks along with you when traveling.

Definitely, something to consider as a very handy solution!

#4: Screen mirroring (Android, Apple, and Windows)

Now that we covered casting, it’s time to talk about screen mirroring.

Screen mirroring and casting are almost the same.

The difference is that mirroring shows exactly what is played or shown on your device.

For example, you have a holiday video playing on your smartphone.

When mirrored, it shows the exact same video on the TV screen.

While with casting, you can do something else in the meantime.

Let’s say you’re casting a Youtube video from your smartphone to the TV.

Then in the meantime, you can open a different app on your smartphone.

This won’t affect the Youtube video playing on the TV screen.

Do you see the difference?

Cool, now there are various ways to mirror per device.

We start with…

Android device

To mirror your Android device, we need to make a connection with the TV and Android device.

First, go to your Toshiba TV settings and Enable Display Mirroring.

Here’s how to do it on the Toshiba Fire TV settings in 5 simple steps:

  1. Push the Menu button from the remote control.
  2. Navigate to Settings.
  3. Select Display & Sounds.
  4. Go to Enable Display Mirroring.
  5. Make sure it’s enabled.

Do you have a different Toshiba TV?

Then check the TVs manual to see if you have this option.

Then go to the settings from your Android device and select casting.

Note: Casting can be named in other ways on different Android devices. If needed, check out the manual from your Android device for the specific name.

Then you should see your Toshiba TV and by selecting it you‘ll mirror your screen.

Btw, did you know that…

Toshiba made a TV app for Android devices. With this app, you can also cast to your Toshiba TV and even use it as a remote control.

Apple device

Apple devices use Apple Airplay to mirror their devices to a TV screen.

The thing is, not all the Toshiba TVs are compatible with Apple Airplay.

Note: Check your Toshiba TVs manual to find out if your TV has Apple Airplay. If you have a Toshiba Fire TV that’s made in 2020 or later on, the chances are high that it has Apple Airplay.

And from there it’s really simple and you can take these 3 easy steps:

  1. On your Apple device, go to the video or photo you want to mirror.
  2. Tap the Airplay button (mostly located in the low left corner).
  3. Select the Toshiba Fire TV.

And you’re all done!

Windows 10

If you have a laptop or desktop with Windows 10, it’s also a piece of cake.

I’ll explain it in 5 simple steps:

  1. Go to the Action Center (often located in the taskbar).
  2. Go to Project.
  3. Select Duplicate.
  4. Then click on Connect to a wireless display.
  5. Then select your Toshiba TV.

Note: Your Toshiba TV may ask for confirmation to allow the computer screen project on the TV.

And then your computer screen will be visible on the TV screen.

#5: HDMI cable

If for some reason you prefer a direct-wired connection, you can consider using an HDMI cable.

For a laptop or computer with an HDMI port, it’s easy.

First, Locate the HDMI port on your Toshiba TV and computer.

Then connect the 2 devices with an HDMI cable.

Make sure your Toshiba TV is on the right input.

And then take these steps on a Windows 10 computer:

  1. Go to Display Settings (right-click on an empty area on the desktop).
  2. Go to Multiple Displays.
  3. Select Duplicate these displays.

And if you have Windows 7 it goes like this:

  1. Go to Screen Resolution (right-click on an empty area on the desktop).
  2. Go to Multiple Displays.
  3. Select Duplicate these displays.

And done.

‘’Hey hey, what about smartphones? Like an iPhone or Android phone?’’

For smartphones, you’ll need an adapter.

If you have an iPhone with a USB lightning connection, you’ll need an adapter like this one. Then add an HDMI cable and done.

And for Android phones with a micro USB type C connection, you can use this adapter. Plug everything in and try it out.
