“Be careful what you wish for.”

Sure, I got the big screen…

But nobody prepared me for how deafening Insignia’s volume is.

Why is the volume too high on my Insignia TV?

Insignia TV volume too high: 11 fixes

#1: Perform a power cycle

So, you have a TV that’s having an issue.

What’s the first thing you do?

After pulling your hair out of frustration, of course…

You need to restart your TV.

However, have you ever wondered why it only works sometimes?

I did think about that, too.

Until I figured out why.

You see, I’m not doing it right all of the time.

Instead, I power cycle it by doing this:

  1. Turn the TV off.
  2. Unplug it from the socket.
  3. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in and turn it on.

When you turn a TV off, sometimes it goes into Standby Mode instead of entirely shutting down.

A power cycle ensures that there are no charges left on your device…

Therefore, completely shutting it down.

#2: Lower its volume

I’ve read a lot of books in my life, especially mystery novels.

I’m a big sucker for Agatha Christie.

And do you know what I learned?

Sometimes, the most obvious answer is the correct one.

In this instance, have you tried lowering your Insignia’s volume yet?

Most of you probably already did…

But, for those who haven’t, grab your remote now.

And hold the Volume Down button until you get your desired volume level.

#3: Mute your TV

Speaking of “simplest solutions…”

Do you see that small button at the top of your remote?

Press that.

It’s the Mute button for your TV.

And when you don’t need sound for your Insignia…

The Mute function is a valuable tool at your disposal.

#4: Clean your remote

If you keep pushing the Volume Down button, but it won’t work…

Maybe something else is pushing the Volume Up button.

No. It’s not a ghost.

Instead, let me ask you a question first:

When’s the last time you cleaned your remote?

Never thought of that, did you?

That’s okay. Most people don’t.

But years of dust and gunk can push buttons on your remote without noticing.

So, to properly and thoroughly clean your remote, you must:

  1. Set aside the rubber or plastic buttons.
  2. Put a drop of pure alcohol inside the hole where the buttons were.
  3. Use a cotton swab to remove all gunk inside.
  4. Let it dry.
  5. Repeat until you’re satisfied with how clean it is.

Note: Speaking of your remote…

Any chance yours has a low battery?

A typical AA battery lasts for about 240 minutes of use.

When this type of battery is low, it could send errant signals to your TV.

And that includes random Volume Up signals.

#5: Reattach your HDMI cable

When you say “high volume…”

Do you mean high-pitched screeching that’s heard throughout your home?

Yeah. That sucks.

I had that once…

Even woke up my young nieces, who are the worst at returning to sleep.

Now, next question:

Do you only get this issue when you’re switching inputs?

Maybe to a streaming device or a gaming console?

If so, the problem’s with your HDMI connection.

High-pitched sounds are a symptom of the HDMI handshaking glitch.

This happens when you don’t correctly plug your device.

Other symptoms of it include:

  • Flickering.
  • Dark screen.
  • “No Signal” message.

To fix this, the only thing you need to do is unplug the device…

And then plug it right back in. Ensure that it’s secured.

#6: Adjust audio settings

If you’re having any sort of audio problem…

Whether it’s loud, has no sound, or anything in between…

Maybe you’re not outputting your sound to the proper channel.

So you need to make sure that you have the correct audio settings.

How?

Simple. Just follow these 5 quick steps:

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Head to Settings.
  3. Go to Audio.
  4. Set Audio Mode to Stereo.
  5. Change HDMI to PCM-Stereo, or S/PDIF to PCM-Stereo.

Note: This only works for Insignia Roku TVs

#7: Change your volume mode

Ever had those obnoxiously loud commercials?

Me too.

I get why they do it…

After all, it’s one way of getting our attention.

But, man, are they annoying.

And TV manufacturers agree.

That’s why they created a functionality called Auto Volume on your TV.

This lowers your sound automatically whenever the volume reaches a certain threshold.

Sounds good, right?

Now, let’s enable this, shall we?

For Insignia Roku TVs

  1. Press the Star (*) button on your remote.
  2. Head to Sound Settings.
  3. Set Volume Mode to Levelling.

For Insignia Fire TVs

  1. Press the Home button on your remote.
  2. Head to Settings.
  3. Go to Display & Sounds.
  4. Under Audio, tap Advanced Audio.
  5. Set Volume Leveler to On.

#8: Update Insignia’s firmware

Update Insignia's Firmware

Do you know that, once you buy your TV…

Manufacturers still help you get the best viewing experience?

They do. How?

By constantly updating its firmware.

Firmware is often referred to as the “software for your hardware.”

It’s like the drivers on your PCs.

Brands roll out updates for your firmware to patch software issues and glitches.

If your TV doesn’t have internet access

  2. Go to Roku’s update page and look for your TV model.
  3. Once you find it, press Download Software and copy the file into your flash drive.
  4. Insert the USB into your Insignia.
  5. Now, open your TV and follow this direction:

Home > Settings > System > System Update > I Can’t Connect.

Convinced?

#10: Use an external speaker

Are you only using your Insignia TV’s internal speakers?

If so, the reason why your TV has such loud volume could be because the speakers are broken.

Speakers are notoriously hard to fix…

That’s why it’s more advisable to get a technician to look at it.

In the meantime?

Get external speakers.

They’re better anyway.

The only caveat is they’re expensive…

At least, some of them are.

Here are my recommendations for cheap speakers and soundbars available on the market:

#11: Call Insignia

You’re not perfect.

Try as you might…

But there’s a chance that you can’t fix your Insignia TV alone.

And that’s okay. Good thing there are people you can call to help you.

In this case, get in touch with Insignia for a personal consultation.

Insignia TV volume stuck on high – what should I do?

When your Insignia TV’s volume is stuck on high, you should factory reset your TV.

This could clear up any errors preventing you from lowering your volume.
